DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Expand/CollapseNATURALIZATION RECORDS INDEX (MICROFILM SAM 28-1)

LocationReel
SAM 28-I1 1862-1943.
Microfilm copy of a personal name card index to declarations of intention (first papers, Volumes 1-3, 1906-1914); final papers (Volumes A-D, 1863-1906, and Minors, Volumes C-D, 1898-1906); and petition and record (final papers, Volumes 1-4, 1907-1943).
The cards are arranged in a single alphabetical sequence by surname and given name. The declarations of intention and petition of record are indexed by volume only. The final papers are indexed by volume and page number. The cards also include the date the declaration or petition was filed or the date of naturalization, which serves as supplemental indexing aids.
The cards were not checked for completeness or correct alphabetical order prior to microfilming. Researchers who do not find a card for a particular individual in its proper place should search the index further and/or consult the naturalization records, many of which contain indexes.
