Expand/Collapse 1984

Covers national and state elections unless otherwise noted. Two sets of abstracts of votes exist for most counties for the general election of 1984. The first, submitted immediately after the canvass, includes all absentee ballots counted on election day. In 1984, Minnesota was under a federal judge’s order that allowed counting of certain military and overseas ballots received up to 10 days after the election. A second set (or partial set) of abstracts resulted from that later canvass and was also submitted. These late ballots were counted only for federal offices.

The State Archives has retained both the original and the duplicate copies of the 1984 abstracts for both the primary and general elections. Although these two sets largely duplicate each other, there are a number of discrepancies; researchers should check both sets.
