The latter deal mainly with internal improvements, such as roads, ferries, dams, and village sites, and with divorces, county division and/or organization, charters for private academies and schools, and territorial prohibition of liquor (1851, 1853).

Includes Governor Ramsey’s message pertaining to a grievance received from the half-breeds of Pembina, and French and English versions of the grievance itself (1849); English, German, and French copies of Governor Medary’s message to the 7th Legislative Assembly (1856); and a printed copy of this message in combination with the University of Minnesota board of regents’ report (1856).

A request that the Minnesota Legislative Assembly vote against the giving of any land bordering on the Missouri River to Iowa, if and when Minnesota achieved statehood.
Petitions, 1849, 1851-1857. 12 folders.
Manuscript petitions, mainly concerning internal improvements, particularly ferries, roads, dams, boomsites, and new villages. Also numerous petitions dealing with divorces, county seat locations, public printing contracts, mail routes, academies’ and schools’ charters, and for and against the division of old counties and the organization of new counties. Petitions of particular interest include a series in 1851 and 1852 requesting the prohibition of intoxicating liquors, including two signed by Traverse des Sioux Dakota; a petition of divorce between Joseph Renville and his Dakota wife, Tah-hugh-pee (1852); a request to incorporate a Territorial Immigration Society (1855); and a series of printed petitions supporting the Minnesota and Northwestern Railway Company (1855), against the division of Scott County (1856), and concerning the removal of the territorial Capitol to either Nicollet Island or St. Peter (1857).
