Record of casualties and relief to victims of the snowstorm of January 7-9, 1873, and an unidentified remittance list (1871-1872).
The snowstorm record [pages 26-69] gives the following information: reference number of case, name of sufferer (and sometimes age), locality (county and township), nature of loss in person and property, description of other circumstances (primarily the plight of surviving widow and children), amount allowed by the governor, when paid, in what manner and through whom paid, and remarks. It was compiled from official reports made to the governor. Also included are some accounting records and casualty tables [pages 21-25, 70-74]).
An act of the state legislature had appropriated up to $5000 "for the relief of persons requiring medical, surgical, and other aid, occasioned by the late snow storm" [Laws 1873 c132]).
The unidentified remittance list [pages 1-14] gives date of remittance, name, post office and county, amount, and other remarks.

Includes accounts for seed wheat fund, appropriation for trial of murderers of Cook and Swede families (Becker County), appropriation for relief of immigrants (1874), $20,000 relief appropriation, and for various southwestern Minnesota counties.

Pages 1-8, 131-134, and 143, removed from an otherwise empty volume. They contain brief accounts for seed grain (no year), pine land investigation fund (1893-1894), governor's contingent (1899), governor's cablegrams (1899), relief fund (no year), and cash payments (probably for relief) to Chippewa, Lac Qui Parle, Marshall, and Swift counties (no year).

A Relief Committee for California Sufferers was appointed by Governor John A. Johnson to raise money for the relief of sufferers from the earthquake and fire in San Francisco. Its activities centered on purchasing and sending a trainload of provisions.

On their audit of the accounts of the California Relief Committee of St. Paul and of the State of Minnesota. Submitted to Gustave Scholle, president of the committee. Includes the committee's report to the governor, with Scholle's transmittal letter, a statement of receipts and disbursements, and a list of contributors.

It contains the chairman's report (May 1, 1906), treasurer's report (May 1, 1906), list of subscribers with amount donated, a note from the Mayor's office attesting to the completeness and accuracy of this summary (May 4, 1906), and a committee roster.

Minutes of the Fergus Falls Tornado Relief Commission (October 16 and December 11, 1919; January 28, 1920), its final report to the governor, an audit report of its accounts and expenditures, and transmittal correspondence.
The commission was created by Ex. Sess. Laws 1919, chapter 45, which apropriated up to $165,000 "to provide relief, preserve public health, promote public interest and public welfare, and further the cause of education in the city of Fergus Falls devastated by cyclone on June 22, 1919."
