HISTORICAL NOTE
Grey Cloud Island Township was originally part of Newport Township. Newport Township consisted of the cities of Newport, St. Paul Park, and the western half of Lower Grey Cloud Island. In 1889 the city of Newport incorporated. In 1909 the city of St. Paul Park incorporated. In 1958 the remainder of Newport Township changed its name to Grey Cloud Island Township in order to avoid confusion with the city of Newport.
