HISTORICAL NOTE
The Region Nine RDC was created in 1972 under the authority of the 1969 Regional Development Act. Region Nine consists of Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca, and Watonwan counties.
The Region Nine RDC acts in an advisory role only, reviewing plans and grant applications and coordinating planning activities. The commission deals with economic, social, physical, and governmental problems throughout the region. It consists of at least 32 members who represent public interest groups. The number of members may vary because of the conditions of membership.
The Region Nine RDC has been involved in issues such as transportation, manpower, planning, housing, health planning, and human resources. Special projects have included studying and evaluating resource recovery and recycling programs and establishing rural development programs.
