Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

Before the 1950s, the files are quite thin; many contain only the optical examination reports. Beginning with the 1950s, the files increase in size and each may contain most of the materials listed above.

Adults were frequently admitted as students, especially for manual training and life skills development classes. At least some of those files are included in these records.

The files appear to have originally been two or more separate series. Most include an identification number, although those from the later years do not. A few students also have two numbers listed.

There is also a set of alphabetical permanent pupil cards (1866-1983) which record such information as student name, city, county, case number, date of birth, date when entered school, parent or guardian's name, I.Q., cause of blindness, vision of left and right eye with test date, school year and letter grades for subjects taken. Many but not all correspond to the student file records. Some students in the student file records are not represented in the permanent pupil cards.
