| Commissioners of Deeds performed duties similar to a Notary Public. These oaths are for individuals located in other states who were authorized to verify signatures on official documents, often land documents. Some of the Commissioners of Deeds were in Minnesota regiments during the Civil War. Arranged in rough chronological order, thereunder in alphabetical order by first letter of surname. | |||||||||||
| 112.A.12.5B | Bonds: Oil Inspectors, 1913-1916. | ||||||||||
| The public safety law revised in 1909 required oaths and surety bonds for oil inspectors was intended to "govern the inspection and use and sale of Illuminating Oils or Petroleum and Petroleum Products" used in the state. The bond needed sign-off by a judge in the county in which the Inspector or Deputy Inspector resided, and was then forwarded to the State Inspector, who filed it with the Secretary of State. Bond amounts are for $2,000. Arranged in chronological order by filing date. | |||||||||||
| Applications for Peddlers Licenses, 1909. 2 folders. | |||||||||||
| Peddlers and other transient merchants involved in direct sales to consumers were required to obtain a license before conducting business. The applications include the names of the merchants, physical description plus limited geographic information on their routes. Fee schedule: $10 for grip on foot; $25 for 1-horse rig; $50 for 2-horse rig; $150 for state transient license (out of state merchants). | |||||||||||

| Bonds for Agricultural Commission Merchants and Grain Commercial Merchants. Issued to corporations, some to more than one entity. Information includes personal names, occupation, property held (livestock, land, etc.), how that property was obtained, any encumbrances and geographic location. The bonds were approved by the Railroad and Warehouse Commission and filed in the Secretary of State office. Bond dollar amounts range from $500 to $10,000. | |||||||||||

| The oath required the persons to follow the rules and regulations of the job, and pay all damages to any person(s) who may be injured by his neglect. Required by the Railroad and Warehouse Commission, and include both Agricultural Commission Merchants and Grain Commission Merchants. Of interest are many bonds for dispensers of Hog Cholera Serum, usually local pharmacists or /pharmacies. Arranged in chronological order by year. | |||||||||||
