Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

The correspondence covers all aspects of the administration and operation of the sanatorium/nursing home, including staff, patient transfers, equipment and supplies, policies and procedures, volunteer services, chaplains, bequests, research grants and studies, financial costs, medical record standards, Medicare, departments and programs, and population statistics.

Topics warranting substantial correspondence include the initial organization and opening of the state sanatorium/nursing home (1961-1962), mainly between Dray and the Department of Public Welfare's (DPW) medical director, David J. Vail. Other substantial groups concern the transfer of patients from the state hospitals; legislative building requests; relationship with the Tuberculosis and Health Association of Hennepin County and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals; possible alternative uses for the state sanatorium buildings (1978); handicapped accessibility remodeling (1980); DPW's resident-work-for-pay program (1981); and hte nursing home's June 1991 closing.
