The State Entomologist was director of the Plant Industry Division and of its predecessors, the Division of Nursery Inspection (to 1931) and
the Division of Insect Control, Nursery and Apiary Inspection (1931-approximately 1945). The title ceased to be used in approximately 1957. He was
responsible for control of plant pests and diseases, inspection of nursery and fruit stock, and apiary inspection. (See State Entomologist Circular 3,
April 6, 1934, and legislative manuals).
