Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

The 1933-1937 correspondence, organized by commissioner, consists of letters from the public commenting on Minnesota's aviation laws (enacted in 1933), licensing, training, and fees; and correspondence with aviation clubs, pilots' associations, and regional aeronautics boards and aviation officials, such as the U.S. Department of Commerce Aeronautics Branch, Works Progress Administration, and the Air Law Institute (Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois). There are also Minnesota Aeronautics Commission meeting announcements, and items concerning commission funding and expenses and legislation. Commissioners during this time were John D. Akerman, L. H. Brittin, Richard L. Griggs, William A. McCadden, and Ray S. Miller. There are also four folders of chronological general correspondence (1934-1937, 1939).

The 1943-1958 correspondence is arranged first alphabetically by organization or correspondent. It covers such topics as airport facilities and development, aircraft and airport safety, regulations regarding aviation in general and the use of aircraft for promotional and recreational activities, aviation education and promotion, organizations and conferences, recruitment and training of pilots, and other topics related to the promotion of the civil aviation industry.
