HISTORICAL NOTE
The Office of Social Work and Mental Health Boards was established in 1987 [Laws 1987 c347] to coordinate the administrative and staff functions of the boards of social work, marriage and family therapy, and unlicensed mental health service providers (all created under the same law). The Board of Social Work was responsible for licensing several categories of social workers. It also scheduled examinations and maintained a register of current licensees. The Office of Social Work and Mental Health Boards was abolished by the Legislature in 1991 [Laws 1991 c292]. The boards of social work and marriage and family therapy continued to operate as independent boards. See agency history record for more information.
