This microfilm reproduces volumes containing real and personal property tax lists for Washington County, Minnesota. These volumes interfile with volumes previously microfilmed as Washington County. Auditor. Tax Lists, 1870-1900.

The tax lists are arranged chronologically by year, then alphabetically within each year by civil subdivision (township, municipality). There are no tax lists for some subdivisions for some years.

The pages in the 1861 and 1864 volumes labeled as Marine Township No. 32 are identified as being for Otis Township. The name of Greenfield Township was changed to Grant Township in 1865. Pages 1-2, 7, and 9-16, missing from the 1872 Marine Township volume, appear on roll 2, frames 711-721 of Washington County. Auditor. Tax Lists, 1870-1900. The pagination in the volumes of the 1882 tax lists begins with the personal property section; however, the personal property section follows the real property section in the volumes and on the microfilm.

The tax list for each locality records, in separate sections, the taxes assessed and paid on real and personal property owned by the residents of the subdivision. Each entry in the section on real property gives the name of the property owner; the legal description, amount and valuation of the land owned; the amount of state, county, local, school, and road taxes and/or the total amount of taxes levied; and the date of payment. Beginning in 1880 the receipt number and a record of settlements, collections, and delinquencies also are recorded. Each entry in the section on personal property includes the name of the property owner; the total value of personal property; the amount of state, county, local, school, road, and any other special taxes; the total amount of taxes levied; and remarks.
