Abstract:The reports contain summary data on enrollment (totals and by grade), attendance (aggregate and average daily), numbers of teachers and annual wages (men/women), teacher qualifications, and finances for all school districts in each county, whether "common" (rural), independent, consolidated, or "special." There are also summary county-wide statistics on county superintendent's office staff; salaries and travel expenses; meetings of teachers and school officers; school buses; and central sources of library and instructional materials.

Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

Some reports give names of district superintendents, school principals, and board of education clerks. Earlier reports (to approximately 1930) contain summary data on distribution of textbooks, school buildings (number and value), and school libraries.

Beginning in 1915, the reports were submitted in two sections: Section I covered pupils and teachers; Section II covered finances. The Section II reports end with the 1971/1972 school year.

The reports were compiled by the county superintendents from reports received from rural school teachers, superintendents or principals of graded elementary and high schools, and school board clerks. After 1970/1971, when the county superintendent office was abolished, it is unclear who compiled these reports.
