HISTORICAL NOTE
Formed in 1969 under Public Law 89-749, the Min-Dak Areawide Comprehensive Health Planning Council provided a means through which private citizens, health professionals, public planning representatives and their associated agencies could provide for comprehensive physical, mental, and environmental health planning by identifying problems, recommending appropriate goals and objectives, and developing and coordinating health services to all citizens of the area by promoting maximum use of existing and planned facilities, services, and manpower. It received half of its funding in federal grants, and the other half from local contributors.
The council served Becker, Clay, Douglas, Big Stone, Grant, Otter Tail, Stevens, Traverse, and Wilkin counties in Minnesota, and Cass, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Steele, and Traill counties in North Dakota.
Under The National Health Planning and Resources Development Act of 1974 [PL 93-641], which called for the combination and redirection of state and local health agencies already receiving federal funds, the Min-Dak Areawide Comprehensive Health Planning Council was dissolved in 1977 and succeeded by the Min-Dak Health Systems Agency, Inc. (Min-Dak HSA). While continuing to assess the health needs of the population in the area already being served by the council and to plan for a health care delivery system to meet those needs, the Min-Dak HSA also expanded to encompass the following additional North Dakota counties: Barnes, Dickey, Foster, Griggs, LaMoure, Logan, McIntosh, and Stutsman.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
Includes a few records (annual reports, minutes, bylaws, plans, and brochures) of its successor, MIN-DAK Health Systems Agency, Inc. (1977-1982).
