HISTORICAL NOTE
The Lafayette Charter School opened in 1999 after the New Ulm school district closed the elementary school located in Lafayette in the spring of 1998. The pre-kindergarten-eighth grade charter school was a small, tuition-free charter school committed to creating a safe and positive learning environment for students to grow socially and emotionally with a focus on agriculture and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The school served students from a number of communities, including New Ulm, Gibbon, Fairfax, Courtland, Winthrop, Lafayette, and more; the school closed in July 2022 due to staffing shortages and a lack of financial resources.
