Companies are grouped in classes by annual revenues, each class filing a somewhat different reporting form. Quinquennial samples were retained for the 1916-1955 period; thereafter the files are complete.

The sampling technique was not rigidly applied; intervening years are occasionally present for some companies.

ARRANGEMENT

Arrangement is numerical by assigned company numbers until approximately 1935; chronological thereafter with a numerical sub-arrangement within each year.

A partial list of telephone companies and their associated file numbers, supplied by the Public Service Department, accompanies the box list in the library. It is not comprehensive; the files contain many companies that do not appear on the list.
