DETAILED DESCRIPTION

LocationReel
SAM 2121Deed reception books and indexes, 1856-1885. 3 reels:
Reception books and indexes to deed records, arranged by type of party (grantee, 4 volumes; grantor, 4 volumes) in four time periods. Internally, each volume’s entries are grouped by first letter of surname of grantee or grantor, thereunder chronological by date of filing. Each entry gives the date and time of filing, name of grantee [buyer] and grantor [seller], kind of instrument filed (warranty deed, mortgage, military certificate, etc.), legal description of the land, to whom the deed was delivered, fees received, and the book and page where the full instrument is recorded. The two general indexes, despite the different title, are the same as the reception books.
Entries in these volumes index records in the deed and related record books below through the year 1885, including deed patent record A and miscellaneous record A on roll 17. Later entries in these deed and related records are not indexed in the 1856-1885 indexes. These deed reception books and indexes also include substantially more land records than just the deed books below. Index entries exist for separate series of mortgage books, affidavit books, satisfaction books, and other series of land related books that have not been included in this microfilm edition.

SAM 2124Deed records, 1856-1971 (bulk 1856-1885). 13 reels and 1 partial reel:
This series of deed books contains transcripts of variously titled documents that function as final transfers of land title (especially, warranty deeds, quit-claim deeds, “land duplicates,” redemption certificates, and patents). It does not normally contain mortgage records or other land documents that would conditionally transfer title. The main part of this series consists of sequentially lettered volumes. Within this series are several units of specific types of deeds. Following the main reel contents list below is a reorganized inventory listing the deed books by specific type of deeds.
The deed books are generally arranged roughly by date of filing. Researchers should note that the date of filing may be months or years after the date that the deed was signed. Therefore, documents dated substantially earlier than the beginning date of each volume may be found in each volume.
