	Abstract:	Letters and certificates of ordination for clergymen of various denominations. Each certificate notes when, where, and by whom (an individual, body, or denomination) a candidate for the ministry was ordained. Occasionally, the record will cite the ordinand's training.

As early as 1858 (Chapter 52, section 5 of the Public Statutes of the Territory of Minnesota), ministers were required to file a copy of their credentials of ordination with the clerk of district court "in some county" of the territory in order to lawfully perform marriages. This filing did not have to occur in the county in which the minister actually performed marriages.
