Although the individual tapes usually focus on one or two specific issues or events, the broad topics covered in them include education, finance and budget, legislation, state and national politics, appointments, business, agriculture, crime and violence, taxes, children, health, economics, sports, environment, welfare, and labor. The majority are recordings of news/press conferences, speeches, or radio show interviews, the latter including shows on WCCO, Minnesota Public Radio, and KSTP, particularly the Barbara Carlson show. Along with Governor Carlson, the tapes feature lieutenant governors Joanell Dyrstad and Joanne Benson and a number of other administrative staff and state and national political figures. There are also recordings of the 1991 inaugural ceremony and the 1993-1997 State of the State addresses.
