Signed by Senator Bob Dole, in appreciation for the Governor’s visit to Washington and his help in passing the bill.
Action for Children, 1991-1992. 3 folders.
The Action for Children Commission was created by Governor Carlson to create a vision for Minnesota’s children and families, develop and recommend strategies to improve opportunities for all children to reach their full potential, devise measurements to assess yearly progress, develop user friendly services, and create and monitor a public dialogue in the state to highlight children’s needs and ways to meet them. Includes press releases, correspondence, member lists, minutes, and reports.
Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Records (ACIR), November 1993-July 1997.
The ACIR was established by federal law in 1959 to improve federal-state-local relations and is an independent, bipartisan federal commission consisting of 3 private citizens, 6 members of Congress, 3 members of the President’s Cabinet, 4 governors, 3 state legislators, 4 mayors, and 3 county officials. Governor Carlson served on the commission. This folder contains both outgoing and incoming correspondence documenting his role in the work of this commission such as the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995 and the effect its passage might have on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
