DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Expand/CollapseNATURALIZATION RECORDS INDEXES (MICROFILM SAM 201-I)

LocationReel
SAM 201-I1 1858-1944.
Personal name index to Declaration of Intention (First Papers), Volumes A-B, 1858-1906 and Volumes 1-4, 1908-1944; Final Papers (Second Papers), Volumes A-G, 1865-1906; and Petition and Record (Final Papers), Volumes 1-4, 1908-1943.
Each entry in the index gives the applicant's surname and given name; the date (month, day, year) of the naturalization paper; the volume and page containing the document; and, occasionally, remarks. Beginning in 1908 the remarks column in the final papers and petitions section includes the certificate of naturalization number.
The index is divided into two separate sections: Declarations of Intention; and Final Papers and Petition and Record. The names in each section of the index are grouped alphabetically by the first letter of the applicants' surnames. Within each alphabetical grouping names are listed generally in the order in which the declarations, final papers, or petitions were recorded in the naturalization volumes; they are roughly in chronological order.
