SCOPE AND CONTENTS
The correspondence files consist of general correspondence with private citizens and business and political leaders, and a files of letters prepared by the commissioner's office staff for the governor's signature. The memoranda are to the governor's office, and from Speer to the staffs of DTED and other state departments. There are minutes of meetings of the department's sub-units, and speeches of Commissioner Speer.
The subject files pertain to trade, business, and economic development issues and projects; departmental administration and promotional activities; and Minnesota economic policies and business climate.
The project files pertain largely to specific trade and economic development projects and issues, particularly cooperative trade agreements and cultural exchanges with the Soviet Union, the Far East, and some other countries; the state's health care and high technology industries; the department's cultivation of good relations with major Minnesota firms; and proposed new or expanded business enterprises.
