Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

A small set of subject files pertains to departmental administration, budgeting, and reporting, and to assorted economic development issues and programs.

The correspondence files consist of general correspondence with private citizens and business and political leaders, and a file of letters prepared by the commissioner's office staff for the governor's signature. The memoranda are to and from the governor's office, and from Dayton to the staffs of DTED and other state departments. There is a small file of Dayton's correspondence with various state legislators, and one of information on economic development funds supplied to each legislative district.

The project files pertain largely to specific business and economic development projects and proposals, primarily applications for small business loans, urban development assistance grants (UDAGs), and other forms of assistance in business start-up, expansion, renovation, or incentives to move to or expand in Minnesota. Among the more substantive files are those on a proposed waste-to-energy heating facility in Bagley; business tax policies; loans to renovate the former Wilson meat packing plant in Albert Lea; economic development in Duluth; meetings of the governor's Economic Conversion Task Force; a proposed supercomputing facility, as well as other high technology projects; a proposal for a rough fish processing facility in northern Minnesota; proposals by Triple Five Corporation for the Bloomington Mall of America; and proposals to attract a Saturn auto manufacturing plant to Minnesota.
