Crystalline Bedrock Disposal Project Files. 1981-1984. Materials in English. Files documenting the board's consideration of a crystalline bedrock repository for hazardous industrial wastes, as required in 1983 amendments to the Waste Management Act of 1980. The repository would consist of minelike chambers set deep in a granite or similar crystalline bedrock formation, with the potential for secure containment far from groundwater resources and "retrievability" for later processing or re-use. In February 1984, the board declared crystalline bedrock disposal unfeasible, citing its experimental nature and the great expense and time that would be needed to test it thoroughly. 0.4 cubic feet (partial box).
