Abstract:Microfilm reproduction of 28 volumes (nos. 1-13, 17-29, 31-32) containing records (1807-1855) of William Clark and other superintendents of Indian affairs, Indian agents, and sub-agents of the Louisiana Territory and the Missouri, St. Louis, and Central superintendencies of the United States Office of Indian Affairs during Clark's tenure as superintendent (1807-1838) and the tenures of others thereafter. The collection also includes two volumes (nos. 30, 33) of records (1812-1814, 1817) of the Missouri Fur Company, of which Clark was president of the board of directors.

Superintendency records include correspondence and correspondence registers, survey field notes and plats of Indian lands, treaties and agreements between the United States and various Indian tribes, council proceedings, claims records, trading licenses, accounts, property returns, and diaries. These records include information on the fur trade and trading posts, Indian relocation, treaties, killings, claims by U. S. citizens against Indian tribes and by Indians against U. S. citizens, roads, weather, and smallpox. The Osage, Sac and Fox, St. Peters (Minnesota), and Upper Missouri Indian agencies are among those represented in the records, as are numerous Indian nations, including the Dakota (Sioux), Ojibwe (Chippewa), Winnebago, and Menominee.

Missouri Fur Company records consist of articles of association, records of the board of directors, accounts, and ledgers.
