The Indonesian Community Oral History Project is part of the larger Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project and is a partnership between the Minnesota Historical Society and the Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans.

Biographical Information: Evelyn K. Lee was born of Chinese ancestry in Semarang, Indonesia. Lee attended Yale graduate school and teaches the piano. She was the first president of both the Indonesian American Society of Minnesota and the Minnesota Indonesia Society; she has also been active in the Indonesian Performing Arts Association of Minnesota, the State council on Asian Pacific Minnesota, Theater Mu, and the Anoka Community Concert Association.
Scope and Content: Subjects discussed include family; education; acclimating to American diet/food; community involvement; Minnesota's Asian community; Indonesian cultural retention; promoting Asian culture.

Biographical Information: Peni Moss was born in 1968 in East Java, Indonesia. She immigrated to Washington, D.C., with her uncle, an Indonesian diplomat, and stayed in the United States to further her education. She is involved in the Minnesota Indonesia Society.
Scope and Content: Subjects discussed include family; retaining Indonesian culture and identity; falling in love; the struggles interracial marriage; raising biracial children in Minnesota.

Biographical Information: Ferly Puaha was born in 1961 in Ternate, North Malaku, Indonesia. Raised a Catholic, Puaha fled Indonesia to the United States after his home was burned down in anti-non-Muslim riots. Now residing in St. Charles, Minnesota, Puaha and his wife both work for Primera Foods and call Minnesota their home.
Scope and Content: Subjects discussed include family; religion and education in Indonesia; raising children in America; food in Indonesia and America; Paul Wellstone's role in obtaining visas; the immigration process.

JOKO AND TRI SUTRISNO, SEPTEMBER 20, 2012.

Biographical Information: Joko and Tri Sutrisno were both born in Sragen, Indonesia. After marrying in college, they moved to the United States and dedicated their lives to supporting the retention of Indonesian culture in Minnesota. They founded Sumunar Indonesian Music and Dance Ensemble, a non-profit organization that promotes Indonesian culture in Minnesota.
Scope and Content: Subjects discussed include family; marriage; immigration; gamelan (Indonesian percussion ensemble); Indonesian cultural retention; acclimating to life in Minnesota.
