On November 1-3, 1965, the Minnesota Historical Society, in cooperation with the Hudson's Bay Company, the James Ford Bell Foundation, Albrecht Furs, and the St. Paul Council of Arts and Sciences, sponsored an international conference on the North American fur trade, held in St. Paul.

This collection contains twenty-two of the twenty-nine papers presented at the conference. Four of the papers, plus five others not included here, were published in Minnesota History (winter 1966) and reprinted in Aspects of the Fur Trade: Selected Papers of the 1965 North American Fur Trade Conference (St. Paul, 1967). Papers by Francis P. Purcha and John F. McDermott were returned to them.

Also included in this collection are a transcript of informal remarks by John C. Ewers, and 12 tables prepared by James L. Clayton but not published with his paper.
