Biographical and autobiographical data, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and advertisements compiled by Carmen N. Richards and Genevieve R. Breen, 1940-1961. The material relates to Minnesota writers and nationally-known writers who had Minnesota backgrounds. The material was compiled for the publication of two volumes: Minnesota Writes, compiled by Richards and Breen and published in 1945, and Minnesota Writers, compiled by Richards and published in 1961.

The collection is arranged in the following manner: All material (correspondence, biographical data, clippings, etc.) pertaining to an individual writer is stapled together in one packet (in the case of some writers there may be more than one packet). These packets are arranged alphabetically, by the name of the author, in manila folders.
