JESSIE TARBOX BEALS:

Swords and Plowshares was performed following World War I. Its intent was to allow audiences to examine conflict and social upheaval throughout Western history. The pageant was divided into seven episodes, including but not limited to the Shepherd Period, the Egyptian Period, the Roman Period, French and Italian Period, English Period, American Period, and Modern Period. This costumes illustrated in these photographs reflect these periods, but are not shown chronologically. Images include groups of actors and actresses, as well as views from the actual performance.
