Victor A. Bloomfield was born in New Jersey and grew up in California. In 1970 he moved to Minnesota to join the faculty at the University of Minnesota as a professor of biochemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics. Bloomfield soon became interested in photography, installing a darkroom in his home, and immersing himself in the local arts scene where he and his first wife became friends with local artists George Morrison and Hazel Belvo. Inspired by the work of Italian-born photographer Ugo Mulas, Bloomfield started photographing the artists he met, amassing an interesting cross-section of Twin Cities artists in the 1970s. To date Bloomfield's work has been showcased at the Suzanne Kohn Gallery in St. Paul and, more recently, at the Minnesota Museum of American Art as part of an exhibition titled The Studio Sessions: Minnesota Artists in the 1970s.

The photographs series consists of 70 black and white mounted photographs and inkjet prints. The mounted photographs were used in a 1970s exhibit at the Suzanne Kohn Gallery in St. Paul. The inkjet prints were used in a 2013 exhibit at the Minnesota Museum of American Art called The Studio Sessions: Minnesota Arts in the 1970s.
The cotact sheets and negatives series consists of 167 black and white contact sheets and accompanying negatives in 35 mm roll film format.
