Expand/CollapseBIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Irving Maywood Kamp was born in 1911 in Marquette, Michigan and grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. He worked for Farwell, Ozmun, Kirk, & Co. in St. Paul. He married Flora (Flo) and raised three children, Bruce, Bonnie, and William (Bill). Kamp always had an interest in expressive art and enjoyed creating interpretation of what he saw through his drawings and later through his photography work. In 1938 Kamp received a partial scholarship from the Federal School of Modern Illustrating which further spurred his artistic interests. At this time, he also began to record scenes of his life with an Agfa-Ansco Shur Shot camera and a Bell & Howell Filmo Double Eight 8mm movie camera. Kamp was well respected as a semi-professional scenic, family, wedding, and candid photographer. He enjoyed the process of doing his own developing, enlarging, coloring, etc. Kamp passed away in 1986.
