George Gerritz glass plate negatives collection. 1905-1927. Glass plate negatives created between 1905 and 1927 in Morrison County, particularly in Darling and Little Falls. Images include family members, houses, churches, barns, flooding in Little Falls, children playing and activities popular at the time. Most of the persons pictured are identified. Collection also includes photograph book, George Gerritz: His Photographs, made by Kathleen Gerritz on March 1, 2016, with select prints of glass plate negatives and identification. 168 photographs: black and white, negative on glass; 4 x 5 inches + 1 volume (32 pages). George Gerritz took photographs of his family and the world around him from the 1900s to the late 1920s. He used a camera that captured negative images on dry glass plates, which he could then print on paper without highly specialized equipment or chemicals.

Thirteen boxes of his negatives, each holding between nine and seventeen plates, were found tucked in the back of a closet in Harold and Martha Gerritz's apartment and brought to New Jersey [around 1996.] They remained untouched until 2015 when the images were processed by a firm that specializes in the preservation of photographic materials.
