Step 1: Draw the Basic Shapes

Before we start drawing our rat, let's warm up by drawing some simple shapes. Rats are made up of basic shapes like circles, ovals, and triangles. Start by drawing a large circle for the rat's body. Then, draw a smaller oval for the head and two smaller circles for the ears.

Next, draw a triangle for the snout and two small ovals for the eyes. Don't worry about making these shapes perfect – we'll refine them later.

Step 2: Add Details to the Face

Now that we have the basic shapes down, let's add some details to our rat's face. Draw two small ovals inside the larger eye ovals for the pupils. Then, add a small triangle inside the snout triangle for the nose.

Draw two small lines inside the mouth to create teeth. You can also add a small line under the mouth to create a chin. Finally, draw two small lines on top of the head to create whiskers.

Step 3: Draw the Limbs

Our rat is starting to look more like a rat! Now let's add the limbs. Draw four small circles at the bottom of the body for the feet. Then, draw two long, thin lines coming out of the body for the legs.

Now that we have all the basic shapes and details down, let's refine them to make our rat look more like a rat and less like a blob. Use your eraser to clean up any unwanted lines and make the shapes more defined.

Refine the circles and ovals by making them more round and smooth. Make the triangle for the snout more pointed and the lines for the legs and whiskers more thin and delicate.

Step 5: Add Fur and Texture

Our rat is looking great, but it's still a bit flat. Let's add some fur and texture to make it look more three-dimensional. Start by drawing small lines around the body to create fur. You can also add some small lines inside the ears and on the top of the head to create more texture.

Don't be afraid to get creative with the fur! You can make it as wild or as tame as you like. Just remember to keep the lines going in the same direction to create the illusion of fur.

Step 6: Color Your Rat

Now that we have our rat drawn, it's time to add some color! You can use colored pencils or markers to bring your rat to life. Start by coloring the body a light gray or brown. Then, color the ears and snout a slightly darker shade.

Don't forget to color the eyes and nose as well! You can also add some highlights and shadows to make your rat look more realistic. Finally, add some color to the fur to make it look more textured and fluffy.
