List of BMW concept vehicles The following is a list of concept cars and other vehicles, presented by BMW. A crowning finale of an anniversary year marked by fascinating highlights: The BMW 3.0 CSL is the most exclusive automobile BMW M has ever produced and combines a unique design with a puristic performance experience. The exceptional high.
Now, seven years later, BMW has finally made that concept a reality, reviving the 3.0 CSL nameplate for a new limited. BMW has pulled a Lamborghini-style surprise and unveiled this radical new racing concept at Pebble Beach. Officially, it's called the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R.
Unofficially, we're calling it. The concept and design of this exclusive special model, which was presented in the anniversary year 2022, pays tribute to the legendary "Batmobile", the historic BMW 3.0 CSL from the early 1970s - the first standalone model from BMW M GmbH. 50 years later, in spring 2023 the exclusive reinterpretation of this classic will now be built over.
Design and Construction: A Homage to Heritage The BMW 3.0 CSL is a modern interpretation of the classic, heavily drawing inspiration from the 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept. 2002 BMW M3 CSL Concept The three terms coupé, sports and lightweight, abbreviated as CSL, have a great heritage. Back in 1938, BMW built the legendary 328 Mille Miglia Coupé with an aluminium body and in the '70s the Company built a lightweight sports car based on the 3.0-litre coupé.
At the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW M took up the theme once again in the guise of the M3 CSL. BMW has revealed a racing version of its 3.0 CSL Hommage concept car at the Pebble Beach Concours event. Almost identical to the concept unveiled at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in May.
The wheel is not the only design cue similar to the racer. Although BMW's high-quality cabins are a main draw, this concept has a cockpit that is extremely race-oriented, not providing any distractions in the least. The wooden dash echoes the original 3.0 CSL's and M colors were also added on the ends of the wooden section.
Race-oriented is not void of style, though, with key retro touches. The new CSL (Coupe, Sport, Lightweight) is obviously modeled after the classic "Batmobile" road and race car from 50 years ago (as well as a controversial heritage BMW concept car design from 2015.
