The first Square Route Rally took place in 1975 when the Club, under the original name of BMW Bikers of Metropolitan Washington (BMWBMW), organized an annual weekend rally in the Catoctin Mountains. Providentially, this turned out to be a winning formula for a great weekend escape from the humid jungles of DC and Baltimore.
