For the next generation i3/i4 BMW should focus on improving the powertrain cost/performance, give it an actual premium interior, and do a better job at overall packaging. At first, I tried renting a Model 3 through Hertz, but the experience was abysmal (dirty, poorly maintained cars). I switched over to Enterprise and ended up with a 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40.
I was already considering the i4/i5 for my next car, so I was excited to have the chance to try out the BMW experience. Rental experience: Enterprise was. The i4 M50, is a BMW first and an EV second.
So many folks that have ridden in my i4 didn't even know it was an EV because it looks like a normal BMW 4 Gran Coupe. I really like this aspect of the car. It is visually pleasing to look at but not really obnoxious like other EVs, and maintaining a normal car aesthetic hasn't really sacrificed much.
The BMW i4 is my first BEV. I generally use Level 1 charging. The key is for me to just plug in the car whenever it is in my garage.
I tend to stay in the 50% - 80% range. So far in December, I have spent about $10 charging at home on Level 1. Remember, it is a good not to charge past 80% on a regular basis.
BMW i4 Community and Owner's Club. I work for BMW and have driven both the i4 eDrive40 and the M50 and they are both exceptional in terms of build quality and range. The M50 sacrifices overall range but makes up for it with performance and looks.
