While electric vehicles like the i3 Rex eliminate direct CO2 emissions, indirect emissions—primarily from electricity generation—must be considered. In regions powered by renewable energy, the i3 Rex’s lifecycle emissions drop dramatically, aligning with sustainable energy transitions. BMW further enhances its eco-credentials through lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced plastic construction, improving energy efficiency and extending range without compromising emissions performance.

Anyone know how they'll emissions test the REx in the US? Most states have emissions testing every one or two years. It involves warming up the engine and connecting test equipment to the ODB-II socket as well as an emissions probe placed up the tailpipe (Ouch!). So the questions are this.

The manual emissions run mode really shouldn't be required unless your state is super weird, but I agree with the passive approach that others have recommended where the onus is put on the tech to know how to properly test the vehicle. In this video, I go through the process of starting the Range Extender Manually, how to enter emissions mode and explain what is the maintenance cycle that sometimes runs automatically on your BMW i3. Note: If the BMW i3 vehicle with the PZEV/SULEV gasoline-powered Range Extender (REx) engine referenced above is currently registered in the State of California (CA) or a State that has fully adopted the State of California PZEV/SULEV regulation (CT, ME, MD, MA, NJ, NY, RI and VT), under the terms of this regulation, the standard emissions.

Fuel Economy of the 2015 BMW i3 REX. Compare the gas mileage and greenhouse gas emissions of the 2015 BMW i3 REX side. This was making me nervous, so I went looking for how to force the REx to run without Bimmercode.
Since I don't recall seeing this posted here before, here's a very short video that explains how to activate the Emissions Inspection mode. The BMW i3 is an electric car that was manufactured by German marque BMW from 2013 to 2022. The i3 was BMW's first mass-produced zero emissions vehicle and was launched as part of BMW's electric vehicle BMW i sub-brand.

CAR reviews new BMW i3 REX We live with i3 Range Extender 94Ah EV battery range on test Month 12 of our BMW i3 long-term test: the verdict Almost exactly one year after it arrived on CAR's fleet. What this does is moves the arrow on the KOMBI up to your current battery level (75%>) and tries to maintain that state of charge +- 4% by running the REx.
2. Emissions Test mode can also manually start the engine, but can only be done while parked and provides very little battery charging capabilities. I bought a 2017 REX a month ago.
To register the car in CA, it needs to have a "smog check," which with the REX is simply a check on the OBD port of the drive cycle (emissions readiness monitors). My problem is that I (i) foolishly reset the ECU in the process of recoding), and (ii) now that I.
