Background of the Third Anglo-Mysore War
Following the Second Anglo-Mysore War, a fragile peace existed between the British and the Mysorean rulers. However, tensions escalated due to the British support for the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marathas against Tipu Sultan, the son and successor of Hyder Ali. This led to the outbreak of the Third Anglo-Mysore War in 1790.

Political Influence: The British gained significant political influence over the remaining Mysorean kingdom. They were given the right to appoint a resident at the Mysorean court to advise the young ruler.
Military Restrictions: The Mysorean army was limited to a maximum of 15,000 infantry and 1,800 cavalry. The British also retained the right to inspect the Mysorean army.
