Do deer eat peaches and pears? While these fruits are a favorite in many gardens, deer typically avoid ripe peaches and pears due to their high acidity and fibrous texture. However, hungry deer may nibble on unripe or fallen fruit, especially in areas where natural food sources are scarce. Studies show deer prefer browse like twigs and leaves over sweet fruits, but occasional peach or pear consumption can occur during droughts or late-season shortages. To safeguard your peach and pear trees, consider fencing, repellents, or planting deer-resistant varieties. Protecting your harvest ensures both wildlife coexistence and fruit yield—so understanding deer feeding habits is essential for smart gardening.
