This mod adds a Paint Gun hand tool giving an easier and more immersive way of coloring and skinning blocks. The biggest benefit is it aims like a hand welder/grinder, you can select blocks in between other blocks. In Block Placement Mode, you can change the color and texture of blocks.
You are in Block Placement Mode, when you have a placeable block (e.g. a light armor block) selected on your toolbar. Before placing a block equipped from the toolbar, you can choose the color and texture.
To do so, Use the '[' and ']' keys to quickly cycle forward and backward (respectively) through the preset colours. To repaint a block in Space Engineers, select a block in your toolbar and press 'P'. This will open up a content window allowing you to select either a solid color, or a skin.
How to Paint in Space Engineers You can use the Space Engineers paint mechanic to color different blocks, including thrusters and refineries. Start by entering Block Placement Mode by selecting any block you want to place into the world. Alternatively, you can press CTRL+G while sitting in your ship's cockpit to access this mode.
You can't place a non-connected block in close proximity to another grid, it has to be either connected or further away. I have found what ever colour the gun was last will result in all new blocks in being said colour. Depending on what you are doing, you can set a row of blocks each with a separate colour. That way you can do a quick pick with the paint gun and not have to go into the gun colour menu.
The fact the paint gun works from many many blocks away helps big time with this. Returning player here, I had an issue with re-coloring blocks in offline solo mode but after some testing I found a solution: If my hands are empty then I cannot re-color a block. If I first select any type of block, so that I see the unplaced block in front of my character, then the re-coloring works.
