MAX eDrive Not Available is normal if the engine is under heavy load, at highway speeds, or if the battery % is low. That being said, it can indicate a problem if the car can NEVER be put in MAX eDrive mode even if the battery is fully charged and driving on level ground under light acceleration. Over the summer, both 12-volt batteries were replaced, and now the hybrid battery has supposedly been repaired. x5 40e with 18,000 miles, 2017 model just out of warranty. Loved the machine but now I regret keeping.
The electric drive system stopped working, battery is fully charged, no check light, no scanned errors. eboost is working. Occasionally is turns normal Has this happened to any one of you.
Note: In extreme temperatures (both hot and cold) Max eDrive may not be available and range may be displayed as "---". In these situations, bringing the battery to a more nominal temperature will resolve the symptoms. Sometimes the MAX e-drive selection would be grayed-out with the message "MAX e-drive is not available." If I selected SPORT mode then tried to engage AUTO e-drive when coming into town, the car would stay in SPORT. Sometimes the CEL would turn on at random, then turn off on its own. The issue was caused by bad 12V batteries.
These cars have two. Wow. It's not all done in 1 page.
This page already contains 2 road tests and multiple voltage checks, rear/front fuse boxes checks, etc. This guy is really typing all his steps into the logs. Amazing.
