The traditional residence halls along Gray Drive are located closest to West Market Street on the north side of campus, with easy access to both the walking trails and the athletic fields. The individual buildings along Gray Drive are identified with two names, one refers to the left side and the other, the right side of one combined building. The Quad consists of 7 suite style buildings.

Modern, full kitchens are in each building. There is elevator access to upper floors, a first floor trash room and a lounge on each floor. Laundry rooms are located at the end of every floor.

Shaw contains the meeting rooms and multi-purpose room for all Quad residence halls and is also home to seminar rooms, group study rooms and faculty offices. Joining the Honors College in Fall 2013 Gray Hall is the second Honors residence, housing about 80 sophomore-to-senior Honors students.

Gray Hall's features include modern full kitchens that are just a step away from the parlors. UNC Greensboro Housing & Residence Life offers 28 residence halls in traditional, suite, and apartment. Gray Residence Hall, 1973 The Gray Residence Hall, designed by Harry Barton, of Greensboro, North Carolina, opened in 1921 and in 1922 it was named in honor of Robert Terelius Gray.

Gray was part owner of the ten acres donated for the original campus and was a member of the State Normal and Industrial College (now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro) Board of Directors from 1901 to. Living on campus at UNCG is a great way to meet friends and get involved, not to mention that being just a short distance away from the academic buildings means getting to those early morning classes is a breeze for residential students! Although there is no requirement for students of any classification to live on campus, over 5,000 Spartans choose to live in a residence hall every single. The seven dormitories that make up the area were all designed by Harry Barton of Greensboro, North Carolina: Bailey Residence Hall (1922), Coit Residence Hall (1923), Cotten Residence Hall (1922), Gray Residence Hall (1921), Hinshaw Residence Hall (1922), Jamison Residence Hall (1923), and Shaw Residence Hall (1919).

Moore/Strong is a bit different from the other traditional halls. In addition to the double-occupancy rooms with community bathrooms on three floors, there are some suites in the center of the building. The suites contain two single and two double rooms and a separate bathroom for suite.

Ragsdale/Mendenhall offers many of the features of a stereotypical traditional college residence hall: warm wooden parlors and long hallways of bedrooms. The rooms in Ragsdale/Mendenhall have sinks and large, walk. Grogan Hall provides easy access to walking trails through the wooded areas of campus, as well as to the College Avenue and the Gray Drive areas, where all of the other traditional residence halls are located.

Two elevators in Grogan carry students up and down all eight floors. The building layout offers double-occupancy rooms located on both sides of a long corridor, with community bathrooms.
