In today's digital age, Canvas is an incredibly popular graphic design tool that many of us rely on for creating visually appealing content. While it boasts a wide array of features, adding hyperlinks is aonde that many users encounter difficulties. Let's delve into a step-by-step guide on how to add a hyperlink in Canva, allowing you to elevate your design's functionality.
Before we begin, ensure that you are already familiar with the basics of Canva. This guide assumes you have a fundamental understanding of navigating the platform and its tools.
Adding a Hyperlink to an Element
Canva allows you to add interactive elements, such as hyperlinks, to your designs. Here's how you can add a hyperlink to various elements, increasing the interactivity of your designs.
For the sake of demonstration, we will be using a text element in this example. However, the process is similar for other elements like shapes, images, or icons.
Selecting the Element
First, locate the element in your design to which you want to add a hyperlink. Click on the element to select it. The element will be highlighted, and editing tools will become available on the right sidebar.
tip: If you want to add a hyperlink to text, select the specific word or phrase. You can also add a hyperlink to an entire text box.
Accessing the Link Tool
Once you've selected an element, look for the 'Link' icon on the toolbar above the design. It looks like a chain link. If you don't see it, click on the three dots (more options) and select 'Link'.
Alternative way: You can also find the link tool in the right sidebar under the 'Share' tab, next to the 'Link' option.
Adding a Hyperlink
After clicking on the 'Link' icon or tool, a small panel will appear, prompting you to enter the URL you want to link to. Make sure it starts with 'http://' or 'https://' for it to work correctly.
Alternatively, you can choose to link to another page or element within your Canva design. To do this, click on 'Link to a page' or 'Link to an element' and select the desired page or element from the dropdown menu.
Previewing and Testing the Link
Before finalizing your link, click on the 'Preview' button next to the URL. This will open the linked webpage or element in a new tab, allowing you to verify that the link is working correctly.
If you're satisfied with the link, click 'Apply'. If you change your mind, click 'Remove' to delete the link completely.
Styling the Hyperlink
Once you've added a hyperlink, you may notice that the linked text appears underlined and in blue by default. To change this, select the linked text and use the text formatting tools on the toolbar or right sidebar.
You can change the font color, underline, or even strike out the text. The formatting options depend on the element you've linked.

For images and icons, a clickable area will be created around the element. You can adjust the size and position of this area in the right sidebar under 'Link' options.
Unlinking an Element
If you change your mind and want to remove a hyperlink from an element, select the element and click on the 'Link' icon again. Then, click on the 'Remove' button next to the URL.
The element will no longer be clickable, and the formatting applied when the link was added will be removed.
