Furthermore, poor drainage can undermine the structural integrity of your landscape, causing walkways to buckle, patios to shift, and the soil itself to erode, washing away the valuable top layer that your grass needs to thrive.
Identifying Problem Areas
Before you touch the soil, you must diagnose the issue. Look for the tell-tale signs of water mismanagement. Persistent puddles that linger for days, a spongy, squishy feel underfoot, or the visible channeling of water that creates ruts after a rain are clear indicators. You should also check the critical perimeter; if water is finding its way toward your basement or crawlspace, your grade is actively working against your home’s integrity.

The Calculation of Slope
Effective grading relies on a specific ratio rather than a visual guess.
