The brakes worked OK but both the ABS lights would start flashing after a few minutes. they flashed up then down on the ABS lights. I maintain my battery with a Battery Tender and the light show green (charged) but the battery is old and I am hoping that low voltage is the cause.

I have a 2000 R1100RT and if I turn on the key and hit the starter the abs lights go into spaz mode. Wait for your lights to blink 3 times before cranking over the engine. If your ABS lights are flashing independently instead of together, then the ABS probably needs a simple re.

HI all - I've read through a lot of the threads on ABS lights starting to flash alternately and what that means, but my issue is the lights continue to flash together on a 97 R1100RT. I assume this means that the system is not conducting a self test, but I am not sure how to diagnose. I have checked the sensor clearances and tried using an analog meter to 'read' any stored fail codes, but none.

A flashing ABS light on a 1999 R1100RT usually indicates a fault in the ABS system. Start by inspecting the wheel speed sensors for dirt, damage, or loose connections. Hi, I am working on a friends bike, a R1100RT, '97.

The ABS lights would flash alternatively when the bike came in. The battery on the bike is not. Hi everybody.

Have anyone had a problem with both ABS warning light permanently on (suppose to be blinking) when turn on the ignition? Have check the ABS relay, OK. Could it be the ABS cancel switch? Can anyone help me with this problem. There's an otherwise interesting '96 R1100RT for sale locally with alternately flashing ABS lights.

The seller says he's cleaned the wheel sensors but looked no further What are the most likely probabilities for this failure (and costs) for me to fix this myself? (Assume, I'm competent). For instance if there's a 50% chance it's the worst case scenario, and that would cost, say, $400, to. A fault is indicated by the ABS light and the bulb monitor flashing in unison.

The bulb monitor will be on continuously until the system has verified operation of both brake switches and both bulb filaments (taillight and brake light) and then it extinguishes and becomes the second ABS light. Took the bike to an independent BMW specialist who ran a diagnostic and found no fault with ABS. As suggested above during startup the voltage drops below 10.5 v which prevents ABS starting up, hence flashing lights.

He suggested looking at starter motor problem (thanks Oracle).
