It's the world premiere that the custom scene has been eagerly awaiting - a BMW Motorrad custom concept featuring a new prototype flat-twin engine - the highest capacity boxer motorcycle ever produced. Simply christened 'Concept R 18', this pure, stripped-down, raked-out bike gives more than a hint of what's coming our way in the cruiser segment. The BMW Motorrad Concept R18 is the third in-house interpretation of the large-capacity boxer engine to come from BMW Motorrad.
Last December the model created by the Japanese customisers, CUSTOM WORKS ZON was presented at the Yokohama Hot Rod Show, on the basis of this new prototype engine. BMW Motorrad revealed the R 18 /2 concept at EICMA, showing other customizing possibilities for the big 1,800cc boxer engine. A deeper look at this new build.
BMW R 18 /2, pronounced Slash Two, is a modern cruiser which shows the multi. The 2020 BMW R18 Concept and all other motorcycles made 1894. When BMW Motorrad unveiled the R18 in 2020, it wasn't just launching a motorcycle; it was reclaiming a piece of its soul.
Designed as a direct challenge to the American cruiser hegemony, the R18 is a paradoxical machine-a modern vessel that feels like a pre-war relic. At its heart lies the "Big Boxer," a massive 1,802 cc air- and oil-cooled flat-twin engine, the largest displacement boxer. These give the Concept Bike a distinctive appeal.

As in the Concept R 18, the centrepiece of the BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 /2 is a large 2-cylinder boxer engine with 1800 cc, including modern air/oil cooling and designed in a 1960s aesthetic. Just six months ago, BMW Motorrad took the custom scene by storm with the world premiere of the Concept R 18 at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
