For that price, it mainly competes with the Audi TT Coupe, the Mercedes Benz C-Class coupe, and the Nissan 370Z coupe. Bought car from BMW less than a year old. Other than new rear clusters (replaced under warranty due to misting), tyres and servicing the car has had no issues.
It potters around town, is a relaxing cruiser but can be great fun on B roads. I've travelled 50,000 miles and still enjoy driving the car.
