Over the summer, my husband and I looked at a few homes, and we noticed that many homes seemed to have one thing in common: All of the children's bedrooms were on different floors than the master bedroom. It serves as a memorial for the couple's lost baby and also a warning to other parents of a danger many wouldn't even think of: sleeping on a separate floor from your child. Bedrooms on different floors, how did you do it? Currently in the market for a house and I am noticing a lot of houses in my area have either: master bedroom on one floor and 1-2 bedrooms on another floor OR master + 1 bedroom on one floor and additional bedroom on another floor.

One of the bedrooms is on our second level away from our primary bedroom and our son's room. Would you feel comfortable having one of your children on different floor than you? My master bedroom is the floor below the kids bedrooms.

However, we have a back split so every level over looks the one below it so we aren't separated by a complete floor. I wouldn't be comfortable being in the basement and completely secluded. Currently, we're all on the top floor.

DS in smaller room and us in the larger bedroom. The "middle" floor bedrooms are a guest room and office at the moment. Long term I don't think there's a problem.

However, short term, how should we configure the bedrooms? I don't want to be on a different floor to the kids when they're young. The one thing I don't like about our house - master bedroom on the ground floor, son's bedroom on the second. We tried to find a single story and did find a house that was mostly on one level, but it's not perfect.

Does anyone have experience with raising small children in multi-level homes where the children's rooms are on a different floor? My wife and I are looking at a house where the master bedroom is on the second floor, where as the kids' rooms are on the main floor. Our child is currently 10 months old. thumb_up_alt1 Like comment4 Replies Sep 04.
Does anyone else sleep on a different floor, what safety precautions do you have any any tips for settling them into new rooms knowing that we won't be just next door? Any other tips would be great. I am intending to get a video baby monitor with two cameras so there will be one in both of their rooms. However, one of the things that I have been running into is that a lot of the homes on the market have the master bedroom on a different floor from all the other bedrooms in the home and that's some thing that my wife and I kind of inherently dislike.
That being said it is an emotional reaction. I fear it is something safety related.
