Plague Meaning In Urdu
The Gilded Age Archives
Bubonic plague, associated with the Black Death, is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. It usually reaches humans through the bite of an infected flea that has fed on rodents. Bubonic plague causes sudden fever, chills, weakness, headache, and painfully swollen lymph nodes called buboes. The Black Death swept through Europe, North Africa, and Asia during the fourteenth century, killing millions and altering societies. Plague returned in repeated outbreaks for centuries. Modern antibiotics can treat the disease when given promptly, while sanitation, surveillance, and rodent and flea control have reduced its threat. Untreated plague can spread into the bloodstream or lungs, producing septicemic or pneumonic plague and becoming rapidly fatal. Cases still occur worldwide today.
